Antenna Audio was created by a merger in 1998 of Antenna Tours with London-based Arts Communication and Technology (ACT), and thus married the production experience of Antenna Tours with ACT's expertise in the development of new audio technologies.
Antenna Tours was a division of Antenna Theater, a performing arts organization founded in 1980 to create original work exploring new forms of theatrical experience. Using the techniques developed by the Theater, Antenna Tours grew to become America's leading producer of interpretive audio tours. ACT was founded in London by Iain Burton, and pioneered portable communication devices, including the world's first talking translator, winning numerous awards for ground-breaking technology firsts in the audio tour market.
Acquired in April 2006 by Discovery Communications, Inc., Antenna Audio is now part of the leading real-world media brand on all platforms. Discovery Communications is the number-one nonfiction media company reaching more than 1.5 billion cumulative subscribers in over 170 countries. Joining Discovery Communications, Antenna Audio now offers its clients unprecedented access to Discovery´s expansive archives, premiere marketing channels, and established distribution networks.
