Between 13 March and 25 May 2003, the Heinz Berggruen Collection, Berlin, is showing ÑMatisse. Papiers découpés", cut-outs by Henri Matisse. The exhibition is accompanied by an audio tour on the award-winning X-plorerô, featuring a dialogue between Heinz Berggruen and famous actor Otto Sander, which you should not miss!
Magic of colours, cheerfulness and joie de vivre. Henri Matisse's cut-outs are regarded as the culmination of the artist's career. With their unmistakable colourfulness and ornamental power, they have never ceased to hold an irresistable fascination.
The world-famous works document the memory of the intensely experienced paradise of oceanic fauna and flora in which Matisse, towards the end of his life, found the power for the realization of his dreams as an artist. The exhibition carries the viewer off to the sensuous world of these unique compositions by the great modern master and reflects their unrestricted relevance to the present.
More than 60 of these precious pieces from international collections and museums will be shown at the Berggruen Collection in Berlin.
The audio tour by Antenna Audio, using the award-winning X-plorerô, is narrated by the famous German actor Otto Sander. Interviews with the collector Heinz Berggruen who personally knew Matisse, give a very private insight in the masters life and work. The tour is available in German and English.
