Antenna Audio's guide to Diana, Princess of Wales by Mario Testino at Kensington Palace

The audio guide to 'Diana, Princess of Wales' gives intimate insights into the creation of some of the most memorable photographs of the late Princess.

Narrated by arts curator and publisher Meredith Etherington-Smith, the tour offers personal memories from Meredith, Testino and exhibition designer Patrick Kinmouth on working with Diana.

Meredith commissioned the photography now on show at the Palace for the Christie's sale of the Princess' dresses in 1997. During the tour, she recalls Mario Testino's response to the commission:

'I just wanted to treat her like a young woman in her evening dresses' Mario says. 'They were dresses she was letting go. She was entering a new period in her life. No longer Her Royal Highness, but Princess Diana. Marc Lopez put a comb through her hair. It took ten minutes. Tom Pecheux did the simplest make-up. I think she felt she looked great'.

Fifteen iconographic images, many never before displayed, are united with the nine of the gowns sold at the New York Christie's auction that raised a staggering £5.7million for charity. The photographic shoot turned out to be the last official portrait photography of the Princess.

On the audioguide Meredith recalls:

'I remember when I asked Mario to do the shoot, I told him I wanted him to capture the electricity, humour and pure energy of the Princess. And he did.

When the Princess and I were choosing the dresses for the shoot, we immediately eliminated all the bouffants and all the full-skirted looks and unanimously chose the more elegant sculptural shapes. Why? Because these dresses reflected the way she was at the time. She didn't need dresses with huge silk satin skirts. She was no longer the shy, young, fairytale Princess.

She had grown up and she was a real, modern, woman.'

The exhibition continues at the Kensington Palace State Apartments until spring 2007.
