Chicago's Millennium Park Becomes The Nation's First Cultural Destination To Offer Free MP3 Audio Tours For Download

Chicagoís Millennium Park is the nationís first cultural destination to offer a free MP3 audio tour for download on the web. Internet users can now listen to the audio tour on their computers or visit the park with their personal MP3 players.

'Millennium Park is a great example of how modern technology can enhance visitorsí experiences of a dynamic public space,' said Millennium Park Executive Director Helen Doria. 'Examples of 21st century technology can be found throughout the Park, from the state-of-the-art acoustics of the Jay Pritzker Pavilion to the LED screens that project the faces of Chicagoans onto The Crown Fountain. We are proud to use advanced technology to offer this new resource to people, where they can learn about these elements of the Park and more.'

The Millennium Park audio tour is available for download at www.millenniumpark.org Visitors to the Park can also rent an MP3 Player with the audio tour in the Chicago Shop at Millennium Park, located on the second floor of the Northeast Exelon Pavilion, 201 E. Randolph Street, for a $5 fee.

The audio tour was created to offer visitors an introduction to the 24.5-acre Millennium Park, Chicagoís newest lakefront destination. Widely recognized for its unprecedented combination of architecture, sculpture and monumental landscape design, Chicagoís Millennium Park has hosted more than two million people since its opening in July 2004. While the tour runs approximately 40 minutes if played continuously, it utilizes random access technology, allowing listeners to go at their own pace and listen in any order they choose. However, the recommended tour stops for optimal viewing are highlighted on the free park map available at the Millennium Park Welcome Center in the Northwest Exelon Pavilion (201 E. Randolph Street). Included on the tour are the voices of many of the most instrumental people in the Parkís development, including Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, architect Frank Gehry (Jay Pritzker Pavilion and BP Bridge,) artists Jaume Plensa (The Crown Fountain) and Anish Kapoor (Cloud Gate), Millennium Park Director of Design, Architecture and Landscape Ed Uhlir, and John Bryan, Chairman, Millennium Park, Inc.

The audio tour was created in collaboration with the Chicago Office of Tourism, a division of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. The Office of Tourism provides visitor services from the Welcome Center in Millennium Park.
