Mission San Juan Capistrano has debuted its fun-filled student audio tour, "Saved by the Mission Bell: A Child's Journey through California History." It is the first mission in California to offer a special audio tour for children.
It features the story of Acu's journey through time. Acu, a misplaced man in California's history, seeks the help of two modern-day fourth-graders, Megan and Tommy, to return to his time in 1915. Along the way, the trio meets characters from the mission's past who open the children's eyes to the change and challenges of the mission.
"Saved by the Mission Bell" is a 45-minute adventure written and produced by Antenna Audio, the producer of the original "Voices of the Mission" audio tour in 2007, which is now available in English, Spanish, French and German. Antenna Audio is world-renowned for excellence in interpretive audio guides for museums and historic sites, including the USS Midway in San Diego, the Louvre in Paris and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The cost of the tour is $2 per student, teacher or chaperone, in addition to a discounted group-rate admission price. Included for each student is a Passport Explorer, featuring a walking map, historical facts and games that teach about mission history. The purchase of a family membership entitles families to two student audio players.
