Berlin, November 2009
For the first time a special exhibition of art and culture is dedicated to the Renaissance in Berlin - an era of cultural new beginnings hardly still perceptible in the contemporary cityscape. The exhibits at the Charlottenburg Castle, New Wing, provide insights into this early phase of Brandenburg-Prussian history and art: In addition to the wonderful paintings by Lucas Cranach the Elder and his son Lucas Cranach the Younger documents, maps and other pieces of historical evidence are explored.
The major Cranach holdings owned by the Foundation of Prussian Palaces and Gardens were investigated in a survey undertaken in the course of a research project lasting several years; the results of this investigation have brought exciting findings to light, which are given their first airing in this exhibition.
The exhibition runs from 31 October 2009 to 24 January 2010 and offers a german and an english tour and a special audio guide for children – more in the style of a radio play.
